Created specifically for new boat designs, the Curved Flush Hatch is a simple yet original design. It is made specifically for boat builders preparing recessed hatch openings that would originally have housed either a conventional hatch and portlight or an expensive custom window system.
The hatch fits seamlessly into a specially designed recess in the deck. The precision of the fit makes for a sleek, modern look. The design is based on Lewmar’s proven Flush hatch platform, which has been thoroughly tested in countless ocean conditions
A tough, tinted acrylic panel is all that can be seen on deck. For the sleek ‘Blackout’ window look, made popular by discerning owners of sports cars and super yachts, Lewmar can offer a dark grey acrylic option. Dark grey keeps cabins cooler and enhances the appearance of the boat. It has lower light transmission and a darker more reflective appearance.
The hatch has an extruded aluminium frame, hidden discreetly below deck, which provides rigidity and strength to the hatch. The unit is completely watertight; channels moulded in the deck drain water effortlessly away.
Curved Flush Portlight
Lewmar’s new Curved Flush Portlight design is based on its highly successful flush portlight range. It is ideal for mounting in acrylic window or on curved deck surfaces. The number of textures, angles and levels on the portlight is reduced in order to minimise the visual impact of the unit on the boat.
Tough, tinted 12mm acrylic is used in order to achieve the flush effect, and is almost level with the mounting surface. Its flat outer frame is powder coated black to camouflage with the acrylic lens.
Both the curved hatch and portlight are at prototype stage and are suitable for development with designers and builders looking to include this styling on their next generation of boats.

Notes to Editor
Hatches and Portlights, more than any other type of deck equipment, act as a real barometer of trend in boat design. On the blank white GRP surface of the deck, the glazing is one of the few elements that allow designers to develop styles and unique brand signatures.
As material technology advances to enable complex designs to be put into a production environment, Lewmar constantly aims to push the envelope to offer a host of new shapes and styles for naval architects and builders.
