In a special presentation given by Peter O’Connell, Lewmar’s Managing Director, Barry and Kevin were given a plaque and a commemorative newspaper from their date of joining the firm. Over the last 15 years Lewmar has seen dramatic growth from a £14 million to the £60 million-turnover business it is today. Over the years, the pair both acknowledged, they had seen the business change from an engineering led marine products company to a customer focused and market driven one.

Kevin Saunders started working for Lewmar in March 1992 on the shop floor as a Custom Assembly Fitter. He now runs all the Operations for the North Factory where winches, windlasses, hardware, thrusters and custom products are manufactured for sail and powerboats around the world. “So much has changed over the last 15 years, comments Kevin. “The variety of products we produce has expanded enormously. The shop floor has also changed, with an increased focus on robotic CNC operations and the adoption of a three shift system that ensure the factory is working around the clock six days a week.”

Barry Moth also started working for Lewmar in March 1992. Barry spent seven years as a project engineer for the company’s hardware division before taking over as Operations Manager for the south factory where all Lewmar hatches and portlights are manufactured. The company’s Hatch business has experienced substantial growth, doubling in size in the last five years. “Every day brings a new challenge at Lewmar, Barry laughs. “There is never a chance to get bored, product development is continuous and global demand for our products has never been greater.”

“Lewmar is keen to recognise its long serving staff and the important contribution they make to the business,” Peter O’Connell, emphasises. “Barry and Kevin both grew their careers with Lewmar, and as a business we wish to encourage similar career progression for all our staff.”
